Dr. Yi Shen’s paper “Reach Out and Touch: Eliciting the Sense of Touch Through Gesture-Based Interaction” was recently published in the Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS). The paper is joint work with Yang (Alison) Liu (Xi’an Jiaotong University), Cheng Luo (Tianjin University), and Hock Chuan Chan (National University of Singapore). JAIS, the flagship journal of the Association for Information Systems, ranks as FMS A, ABDC A*, ABS 4*. The 3-year impact factor of JAIS for 2020 is 5.149.

This research investigates the impacts of two types of gesture-based interaction (i.e., touchscreen interaction and mid-air interaction) on consumers’ sense of touch. It contributes to the existing literature by empirically investigating the effects of gesture-based interaction on consumers’ bodily sensations, elucidating the role of the sense of touch in affecting consumers’ virtual product experience, and highlighting the impact of the interaction method on consumer behavior.

Dr. Yi Shen is an Associate Professor at Dongwu Business School, Soochow University. She received the Bachelor of Computing (2012) and the Ph.D. degree (2017) in Information Systems and Analytics from the National University of Singapore, Singapore. Dr. Shen’s research interests include human-computer interaction, human-AI interaction, e-commerce, and social media ****ytics. Her work has been published in journals including the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Information & Management, and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management. She has served as the Associate Editor for International Conference on Information Systems and Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems.
