【讲座一】Stochastic Optimization and Machine learning algorithms for the seed crop industry: Theory and applications.

摘要：We look at a well-known and somewhat well studied stochastic inventory problem. Random Yield problem with correlated yield and correlated demand is known to be hard. In fact, the standard random yield model with i.i.d. problem parameters is itself unwieldy and a host of numerical recipes have been proposed in the literature. We use a variant of the so-called linear inflation heuristic to construct the first known approximation algorithm with a constant guarantee to the yield problem. We then discuss its application to a capacity and inventory management problem with a partner firm, Dow Agro Sciences. We also explore SAA based learning and optimization routines and prove a distribution free bound on the samples in a multi-product network.

We discuss theory-driven implementation, which gives rise to novel operational problems that reflect managerial bias. We address these practical problems using simple data driven recipes that are insightful as well as yield provably good performance.
